Screaming Factor was formed in the city of Malang in March 1997 by Yoyok that really wanted to have an old-school hardcore or hardcore-punk band. Yoyok then invited his schoolmate, Evi, to be a vocalist in this band. Several close friends were also recruited to complete the first SF formation as follows; Evi [vocals], Harry [vocals], Yoyok [guitar], Andre [bass], and Lucky [drums]. Earlier in their career, Screaming Factor often covered foreign songs by Sick Of It All, 25 Ta Life, or Vision of Disorder. Around December 1997, Lucky walked out of the band and the position was soon replaced by Oyik. Meanwhile to fill the vacancy in the guitar sector, Yoyok finally took Udin to enter into their formation. In mid-1998, Harry decided to leave the band because he wanted to focus on his work. Evi [vocals], Yoyok [guitar], Udin [guitar], Andre [bass], and Oyik [drums] started performing in various stages and local gigs such as Parade Music Crisis, Malang In Your Face, After Shock – where they share the stage with Today Is Struggle, Direction For Use, MBDPH, Youth of Strength, Stolen Vision, Keramat, Wodka, No Play No Games, Skatoopid, Dying, and a number of other bands. In 1999, Screaming Factor documented their first single entitled We Born In Pain. The song was recorded in studio Kangean [Malang] . The single was also included in the compilation album For The Truth which was released by the Youth Frontline Records [Malang] in April 1999. According to reports from the label, the compilation has been sold 500-600 cassette copies throughout Indonesia. At the end of August 1999, Andre [bass] decided to leave the band to concentrate on his new routine, which was rehearsal studio attendant. Screaming Factor finally opened auditions to find a new bass player, and was forced to cancel their show at the event Bludreg Solo. After being idle for some time, Screaming Factor went on stage again with the entry of Adon as bass player, replacing Andre. Member changes in Screaming Factor did not stop there. Oyik [drums] suddenly resigned in February 2000. His position was then replaced by Tomy for some time. Together Tomy, Screaming Factor had appeared in several events, such as the Battle of Hardcore in Surabaya and Under Siege # 1 in Blitar. The other members felt that Tomy didn't have enough competence, the position was then handed over to Ayok. In the formation Evi [vocals], Yoyok [guitar], Udin [drums], Adon [bass], and Ayok [drums], Screaming Factor was back at work. In early 2000, they recorded the single, Wake Up. The single is included into the compilation We Born With Pain, released by Never End Records [Jakarta]. During this period also, Screaming Factor played on several local stages, such as After Shock # 2, Pakis Severe, Parade Music Stop AIDS, Singosari Breakdown, Sumbersari Survive For U, Flashback, and The New Year Matinee. In early May 2001, Screaming Factor participated in the show One Family One Brotherhood in Yogyakarta. In the annual Jogja hardcore fest , Screaming Factor appeared one stage with Lost Sight [Jakarta], Something Wrong [Yogyakarta], Moment of Pain [Solo], and several other bands. A day after the event, Screaming Factor returns home to Malang to perform in the Sound of Disaster in the campus hall of STIKI Malang. A number of other gigs that Screaming Factor also played on were Malang Expo 2002, Hardcore As Fuck, Ontrant-Ontrant, Bring Your Noise, Sound In The Garden, Malang City Hardcore # 2, Velodrome Skate Rock, Brotherhood Fuck You, After Shock # 3, and Saturday Night Hardcore. In June 2002, Evi [vocals] was forced to resign due to time management difficulties. This period became the toughest period for Screaming Factor. Because Screaming Factor had already been known as a female-fronted band with Evi as female vocalist. After taking a breather for several months, in early January 2003 Screaming Factor officially gave vocalist slot to Novi. Previously Novi often helped Screaming Factor as back-up vocals. The first stage Screaming Factor played on together with Novi was Party To The Max, which was held by the collective ska scene in Malang. In this event, Screaming Factor played on stage with Skatoopid, Spiky In Venus, Brigade 07, Extreme Decay and a number of other bands. Then they re-appear on the show in Hijau Damai Universitas Merdeka Hall Malang. Shortly thereafter, they also perform at the event Together We Rock in Campuss Cafe, along with Begundal Lowokwaru and Spiky In Venus. Screaming Factor gig schedule that year was tight, like for example in the event of The Ferry Days [Campus Cafe Malang], Patriot 666 [Bali] and the East Coast Empire on New Year's Eve 2004. In early January 2004, Screaming Factor had planned to record in Unggul Studio [Malang]. But good fortune apparently was not in their favor. The plan to record the project had to be canceled. they eventually started to record a demo song, The Fire That Burns In My Heart, in Nero studio[Malang]. The song was then included into the Solidrock Magazine # 3 CD sampler, in June 2004. Feeling quite satisfied with the recording in the Nero studio, Screaming Factor finally decided to start recording all their songs. The process itself is quite complex and time consuming. Recordings done gradually in various sessions in Ant'z and Nero studio. Reluctantly, Screaming Factor was forced to cancel their appearance on the Tribute To Sick Of It All event in Jogjakarta because they wanted focus more in the recording process. In between recording schedule, Screaming Factor took the stage, appearing in local stages. They played on Hardcore Attack Vol 02 that was held by Collective Radiation at Diva Cafe [Malang] on August 29, 2004, along with Extreme Decay, Antiphaty, Bangkai, System Error, Silence Is Broken, Stupid Rascal, Breath of Despair, Primitive Chimpanzee and Mortal Kombat [Yogyakarta]. In addition, Screaming Factor also appeared in Rock-Madhan charity concert organized by Ant'z crew, X Mild Noize music concert in Sengkaling, and Rock & Roll For Atjeh in UB Malang. On February 6, 2005, Screaming Factor became the openning band for SOL; Asian Tour, which took place in KNPI building Malang. Resumed on 19 February 2005, Screaming Factor was again honored to be the opening act for Ingrowing; Sunrise Rapping South East Asian Tour, the Swing Cafe Malang. In the same year, Screaming Factor participated in Jana (independent) original soundtrack produced by young filmmakers group of Malang city. At the end of 2005, Screaming Factor finally released their debut full album under the label Fukyu Records. The Self-titled release was marketed all over Indonesia through independent channels, and the public response was quite positive. Their songs got radio airplay on local and outside Malang. Screaming Factor's profile and album also began to be reviewed by various media. Even TRAX magazine in a metal edition issue [January 2006] put Screaming Factor as one of 15 Indonesian bands that is capable of defining heavy metal in the 21st century. Since their debut album, Screaming Factor is often referred to as 'the hottest act' of the rock music scene the city of Malang. Among their busy schedule in writing new music materials, they still took time to appear in various stages. In early 2007, Screaming Factor played as a special-guest in Burgerkill; Beyond Coma and Despair Tour in Surabaya. Then a guest at the Battle of Bands [Malang] together with Seringai and Antiphaty. Their single, The Fire That Burns In My Heart, had also been included in national compilation, Rock Without Limits [Dapross Records, 2007]. From August 2007 until March 2008, Screaming Factor record their songs in Musika Nada studio[Malang] with full supervision from Ayok. Right after the recording process, Adon decided to resign from the Screaming Factor and was replaced by Harry, a talented young bassist that the band recruited after a brief audition. Harr's first stage with Screaming Factor was when the band played on Metal Attack, together with Beside, Anorma, Sekarat, and Nothing To Say That in Malang, 17 May 2008.
